UPVC door problem

Question

When I pull up my door handle everything latches and I can lock the door, with a bit of force on the locked handle it goes down and opens. Any ideas on what could be wrong?

Hi yes your door would need adjusting so the hooks and bolts go in there slots on the frame side freely

Shootbolts could be catching, door may need adjusting at the hinges, have a look to see if anything is catching when you pull up the handle

It sounds like the multipoint locking gearbox may be worn or broken, although door misalignment can cause similar symptoms.

If the handle can be forced down and the door opens while it is locked, the locking mechanism is not securing correctly and the door should be treated as insecure.

Try locking it while the door is open. If the hooks and bolts engage but the handle still goes down, the gearbox, spindle or cylinder may be faulty. If it works correctly when open but not when closed, the door has probably dropped and needs realigning.

Avoid forcing the handle, as the mechanism could fail completely.

Sounds like the door needs adjusting as it may have slightly dropped.

In most case it is the alignment which cause this issue.

Everyone here is spot on, door is out of alignment let us know if you’d like us to pop out and check it out for you. If you leave it, it’ll eventually collapse the mechanism and break.
